Hands-on art and making for curious kids ages 6–12.

Ages 6–8 and 9–12 · 90-minute workshops · Materials provided

Each workshop begins by looking at artists who have explored the materials, subjects, or techniques we’ll be working with. Kids will gather ideas from the artists’ work, then use those ideas as a starting point for their own creative projects.

BUILD

Branches & Wood

Branches, twigs, bark, and pieces of wood become our building materials as we explore their natural shapes, textures, and possibilities. Younger makers might create woodland scenes, creatures, or simple structures, while older makers can take on more ambitious projects, including tiny houses and shelters.

EXPLORE

Cactus Garden

Inspired by the unusual shapes, textures, and patterns of cacti and succulents, kids will paint rocks to create their own collection of colorful plants. The painted rocks then come together as miniature gardens, with room for imaginative details and personal touches.

PRINT

Stamps & Stencils

Simple shapes can become intricate patterns, layered images, and unexpected designs. Kids will experiment with stamps and stencils, exploring repetition, rhythm, layering, and color as they develop their own prints.

DRAW

Cats & Dogs: The Great Escape

A cat or dog sets off on an adventure in a mini-illustrated book. Along the way, kids will experiment with expressive pen-and-ink drawing, inventing characters, settings, and details while using line, shape, and expression to tell a story through pictures.

PAINT

Ink + Watercolor: The Fruit Stand

A quick watercolor color study gets us started, with experiments in mixing and layering colors. Then we’ll draw a lively fruit stand with pen and ink, filling it with fruit, signs, baskets, and other details before bringing the scene to life with watercolor.

INVENT

Birds & Nests

Imagine a bird that exists nowhere else, then build it and create a nest to go with it. Feathers, fibers, twigs, paper, and other natural and found materials become the raw ingredients for birds with personality—and homes to match.
